Product Empties: Springtime Edition

hello again friends!

I have been hoarding my garbage again. Whoopsie. But it’s for your benefit! I always love reading peoples empties posts or watching their videos because I feel like they give more complete reviews of their products. Sometimes first impressions aren’t everything, and using the product for a month or two can give you a better idea of its worth!

That all being said, I would love to share with you what have used up within the last few months of springtime!

The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion- omg long name. great product. I absolutely adore how this nightime cream smells, and used it primarily when I was having a bad skin day. It really helped keep the blemishes and redness at bay.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream- a crowd favorite, this cream is intensely moisturizing and I adore using it on my hands every night before bed. It keeps my hands soft all day!

The Body Shop Shea Body Butter- love this stuff. I have purchased 27million of them. Enough said.

Murray Clarifying Cleanser- This is one of my favorite face washes of all time. I rarely see immediate improvement with my breakouts but this wash instantly helps clear your skin. I love having this bottle around for that time of the month!

Essie polish in Style Hunter- I loved this bright pink color. Unfortunately the cap didn’t get screwed on tight enough and it dried out rather quickly 😦

Sally Hansen Mega Shine top coat- again, love this top coat. It adds instant shine and helps my polish last longer on my nails!

Garnier Fructis Volumizing Anti-Humidity Hairspray- I loved this hairspray soley for the fact that it smells brilliant. Frankly, most Garnier products have that outstanding quality. Was it the best hairspray ever, no probably not.

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Moroccan Oil Treatment- I love putting an oil-based product in my hair after hopping out of the shower. It helps keep the frizz at bay and leaves the shine lasting all day long. This product lived up to those expectations and lasted literally forever!

Fekkai Color Care Luxe Color Masque- I love a good hair mask. This little treat helped my to lock in the moisture after excessive styling of my hair. It also made my locks suppppper soft for days!

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap in Peppermint- Technically, this isn’t makeup. However, it is my absolute favorite makeup brush cleaner….so it counts.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 012 Buff Beige- I adore this powder. Adoreeeeeeee it.

e.l.f Lip Exfoliator- Don’t buy this guys. I mean, I love a good lip exfoliator but this was like rubbing sandpaper on your lips and it broke the day I bought it.

Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil in Soft Brown- LOOOOOVE. My fave brow pencil ever! It creates the most natural looking brows!

Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation- Ok, why can I not buy this in the US yet?! This light foundation smells amaze and it gives such a dewy finish. I NEED MORE

Maybelline The Falsies mascara- A great drugstore mascara! This creates dramatic lashes, however there is quite a bit of fallout :/

And thats it guys and gals! I hope you enjoyed my garbage 😉 Maybe next time I won’t wait until I have so much…..

Contouring: The Everyday Girls Guide

Hello hello!

Hands up if you’ve dabbled in the world of contouring and absolutely destroyed the look you were going for!

*raises hand*

Ok, now that I’ve admitted my problem, it’s time I remedy my mistake.

When done correctly, contouring and highlighting can add dimension, accentuate your best features, and completely alter any look. Done incorrectly, it can make anyone look like they rolled around in the dirt fighting a squirrel for its last acorn. #guilty

Step one: gather your materials.

I like to use a good bronzer, highlighter and a quality brush. When choosing your bronzer color make sure to test out the samples in store. Is it too red? Too orange? Since I have more of a fair skin tone I like to choose a buildable shade with bronze/gold undertones. In this tutorial, I used the middle bronze shade from the Anastasia contour kit.

For highlight, I like a slight shimmer with a bit of yellow or peach in it. The yellow color acts as a brightener while the peach can divert attention from any blue circles underneath your eyes (college anyone)? Again, I used the top row, middle color in the Anastasia kit.

And finally, your brush. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on a quality brush. Heck, I’ve purchased some of my favorites for less than $10! Look for something that’s a bit more dense and has angled bristles. Real Techniques make great affordable options.

Step Two: What look do you want to achieve?

Before diving headfirst into the contouring cavern, decide what features you want to make more pronounced. Do you want more intense cheekbones? A slimmer nose? A good bronzer can do wonders.

Step Three: Application

I like to apply my contour over my foundation, but underneath my translucent setting powder. And always remember; apply with a light hand. Suck in your cheekbones, and lightly apply your bronzer in a sweeping motion. I use a clean brush (or my foundation brush) to blend the harsh edges of any contour. I always like to take a bit of bronzer and apply it in a “3” shape around the edge of my face:

For highlight the basic rule of thumb is to apply it wherever light would naturally hit your face first. For me, I love using it across the top of my cheek, my brow bone, down the bridge of my nose, and a dab on my chin.

Step Four: Check your light

This might be the most important step in the contouring/makeup application process. Your mirror might look one way, but go outside, take a snapshot on your phone and see how it looks in natural light. The best kind of contouring looks effortless and natural. If you ever apply it too harsh, use your foundation brush and the remaining base color to blend it out!

Well, I hope this little how-to helped some of you. I know I’m no professional, but I have definitely had a bit of trial and error 😉

Winter Makeup Haul

Now that Christmas and the New Year have come and gone, I feel that it is time for a makeup switch up! After seeing all the new makeup hauls after Christmas, the new product hitting the shelves at Ulta and Sephora, and that general spendy vibe, I usually find myself purchasing a bit too much around this time of year. Whoops….

I have been loving the brand Tarte and have been dying to test out all their products- luckily (for my bank account) I decided to just try out two. First was the classic Light, Camera, Lashes mascara. This mascara has a great applicator, goes on smooth, and never clumps. It is completely buildable, and can be applied lightly or heavily. Next from Tarte, I picked up the Amazonian Clay full coverage powder foundation. I have the liquid version of this goodie and love it, so I knew I would like this version. And boy was I right. It is so light, yet full coverage, and has an amazing range of colors.

My next splurge was the original Naked palette. I own the Naked 3 and adore it, so I knew the original would become a fast favorite. This palette is great on my skin tone, and has a complete array of brown-gold neutrals that are perfect for any season. I can’t wait to play with this a little more and maybe do some makeup looks?! eh? eh?

To work with my new eyeshadow palette, I picked up the Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Champagne. I saw a blog post a while back on this little goodie, and immediately went to pick up one for myself. These primers have such a great pigmentation and allow for the eyeshadows placed over top to shine immensely. This champagne color is delightfully shimmery and brightens up the face during the dark and drab winter. It can be worn alone or under shadow, and looks glorious either way!

Finally, I have jumped on the contouring bandwagon. The Anastasia Contour palette comes with three light shades and three dark shades. They come in a variety of shades- ranging from yellow bases to red bases (allowing for a variety of skin tones). I adore the way these colors are dark enough to shadow and highlight, yet not too harsh. I have been having a lot of fun with this palette so comment below if you’d like a post all about this treat:)

And that’s it for my little winter makeup splurge. I’m hiding my bank cards from myself now…yeesh.

Fall Makeup Haul

As the seasons change, so does our makeup collection. I have had such a fun time shopping around recently for new products that I want to try this season, browsing online and popping into various shops. The makeup world has been putting out some wonderful new goodies that I couldnt wait to try and share with you all! So without further ado here is what I’ve picked up:

Skincare: La Roche-Posay Effaclar Clarifying Solution

*Basically, a high-end toner to unclog pores and medicate problem skin, I havnt tried this out much, but I’ve read some promising reviews. I’ll update you all on how it works!

Eyes: Naked2 Basics Palette

*Take two on the ever so popular Naked Basics palette, this is a collection of 6 matte shades with the most delightful creamy finish- which I’m already addicted to. I have been loving this palette for eveyday use as its subtle enough to wear during the day but can be pumped up for night!

Brushes: It Cosmetics Brushes in #105 Blending Crease and #115 in Complexion Perfection

*I adore these brushes! A new add-on to the it Cosmetics range, the bristles on these brushes are insanely soft, move across the face seamlessly, and are quite affordable for a high end brush. The #105 blending brush is comparable to the MAC 217, and dare I say it- might be better!

Eyebrows: Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil in Soft Brown

* The smallest pencil with the biggest bang- this product takes my eyebrows from patchy to runway ready with a few quick strokes. The small pencil gives you the ability to recreate little hairs which is perfect! I have also been loving using this daily!

Eye lashes: Urban Decay Perversion mascara and Subversion Lash Primer

* These are incredible. Lash-enchancing, lengthening, thickening, and blackest of black. With the use of the primer they give you the false lash effect, and without the primer it gives you a nice black coat that isnt too dramatic but still bold. I am a HUGE fan of the Maybelline Falsies mascara, but this Urban Decay may be my new high-end obsession!

And that’s it! Have any of you tried these products or would you like to see a review of anything? Let me know- I may be posting a cheeky little tutorial with them soon 😉
