Travel Makeup Essentials

Hello hello!

As someone who has an obscenely large makeup collection, it would be entirely impractical to travel with all of it. It usually takes me quite a bit of time to decide what I want to bring with me when I go to work- let alone on a two-week vacation across the world. So here are the makeup essentials I like to bring with me when I travel, for any amount of time:

Free Sample Fridays: Benefit Stay Flawless Primer

Hello friends!

Back again for another week into my hunt for the best face primer ever.

So, what can I say about this little cutie?

This primer comes in a roll-up tube applicator. It is nude colored, and glides along the skin easily. I have used it several times now and am not wholly impressed. The benefit of this product is that it does make the skin look and feel quite smooth. However as the packaging states it is supposed to be a 15-hr primer. This is where I disagree.

What I found most disconcerting about this product is that after several hours of wear, the foundation I chose to place over top began to pool in random spots on my face- particularly on my forehead and around my nose. This began to make my complexion look blotchy and oily.

Would I purchase a full-size? Unfortunately, no. The search continues.

Free Sample Fridays: Benefit Dream Screen

Hello hello!

I am been trying to use up my bundle of face-primer-sunscreen-product-things lately, which surprisingly there are quite a lot of. This week my sample of choice was the Dream Screen by Benefit. This product is boasted to be a 45SPF sunscreen for your face.

I was able to use this product several times to gain a more complete review of it. Unfortunately, I am not that big of a fan. I do enjoy the fact that Benefit has a facial sunscreen, however what really turned me off about this product was the consistency. It is more of a serum texture, very liquid, and runs through the fingers easily.

The upside to this product is that it smells divine and dries matte on the skin. Most facial moisturizers leaves the skin feeling oily and slick yet this product manages to become a matte base for your next layer of makeup!

Would I purchase a full-size? No, while this product does have its benefits *pun intended haha* it’s just not for me.

Benefit’s They’re Real! Push-up Liner: Review

Okay all,

As most of us beauty-addicts know, Benefit recently released their push-up gel eyeliner pen. I jumped on the bandwagon. It took all of one day to decide that I needed this product in my life, and I can honestly say that I am beyond impressed.

Let’s break it down for you, shall we?

The Benefit They’re Real! Push-up Liner is a gel eyeliner, pen, with a rubberized tip, that doesn’t dry out, is long-lasting, and waterproof. WHAT?!?! How can one product do so much you ask? I thought that there could be no way it would live up to the hype.

Boy was I wrong.

Not only did this eyeliner meet all my expectations, but it exceeded them as well. I applied this eyeliner so quickly I felt like a professional eyeliner-applying goddess. But, not only did I apply it quickly, it looked good too!

I wore it to work all day, in the heat, and it didn’t budge at all! The rubber and angled tip allowed for a more precise line and gives the user more versatility in how they would like to apply the product. Since it is a gel formula it dries rather quickly as well and won’t smudge. I adore the color payoff as well, it is the perfect dark black.

This product is definitely a game changer and is an absolute staple in my current makeup bag. If you like a dramatic cat eye look or even a subtle thin line to thicken your lash line, Benefit’s They’re Real! Push-Up Liner is for you!

Have any of you tried it? What are your thoughts?!

Pore Minimizer/Primer Dupes

Hey all!

So recently I have read many a post about a multitude of Benefit products. One that has stood out among the rest is Benefit’s Porefessional. This product is a face primer and pore minimizer. Sounds great doesn’t it?! Well, the only downside is the price. Running around the $30 mark, the Porefessional is definitely a high-end product. While that is all fine and dandy, sometimes I don’t want to spend that much on a product that you can’t even see; like a primer.

So, whilst I was recently at my local Target, I came across the Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser. The packaging looked similar, and the descriptions looked like they performed the same kind of duty- yet the Maybelline one was substantially less expensive at around $6.

After purchasing both, I decided to test them out separately and evaluate whether or not the Maybelline primer would be a dupe for the Benefit one.

First, the Benefit Porefessional: I was immediately impressed by the texture of this product. The color was a light beige, and melded with the color of my skin once applied. I applied the balm with my fingers, and spread it all over my face- especially around my nose and mouth where my pores are larger. While I didn’t notice a substantial pore minimizing happen, I did notice that when applied underneath my foundation the Porefessional made my foundation last longer throughout the day.

Now for the dupe;

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser: Applied the same way, I rubbed the balm onto my face with my fingers. The color of this product was clear, and it made my skin slightly less smooth than the Porefessional but still very soft. I noticed that again this product helped keep my makeup on longer however it did have one downside: After a few hours of wear, it seemed like my foundation would begin to slip off my face, particularly around my forehead area. I’m not sure if this was because I didn’t blend the primer well enough, or perhaps this primer just doesn’t soak into the skin as well as the Porefessional.

Overall, I still think that Benefit’s the Porefessional is the better investment, but if you’re looking for an inexpensive alternative Maybelline’s Baby Skin should work!

What face primers do you use?!
