Spring/Summer 2016 Lip Trend: True Red

I was sitting around this week thinking, what lip color should I wear today?

I know, I know. Big life decisions.

Is the Kylie nude still in? Are the winter mauves out? I JUST DONT KNOW!

Thank goodness for Google. After some searching, some runway reviewing and some Sephora stalking, I have determined that this spring and summer I will be rocking the candy-apply reds.

My Top 3 Pink Summer Lipsticks

Hi friends!

I love lipstick. This is of no surprise to anyone who has been here awhile. I love to wear bright colors in the summer to pump up any look- making tanned skin look more bronze, hair look more wind-blown, and summer a little better.

So I took a look through my lipstick collection and gathered my three favorite pink-toned lipstick colors to don during this season.

From left to right:

YSL Rouge Volupte #5: These lipsticks by YSL are one of my favorite formulas and this color is my stand by summer color. It is the most gorgeous peach toned pink I have ever found. Not only do I love this color on me, but it is beautiful for those with and without tans. I love how the formulation is so smooth and buttery. Another benefit of this lipstick is the smell— holy mango. I die.

Rimmel Kate Moss #16: I picked this color up last summer in Ireland and absolutely adore it. It is an amazing orange-pink that is great for daytime looks. On tan skin it brightens up your whole face! I would say that if you enjoy brights than this is a great every day summer color.

Maybelline Color Sensational #740: I love Maybelline lipsticks and the color sensational line is incredible quality for a drugstore price. I haven’t worn this color much because it is quite neon-coral, but when I do wear it, I absolutely adore it!

And those are my top pink summer lip colors! What are yours??

Product Empties: Springtime Edition

hello again friends!

I have been hoarding my garbage again. Whoopsie. But it’s for your benefit! I always love reading peoples empties posts or watching their videos because I feel like they give more complete reviews of their products. Sometimes first impressions aren’t everything, and using the product for a month or two can give you a better idea of its worth!

That all being said, I would love to share with you what have used up within the last few months of springtime!

The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion- omg long name. great product. I absolutely adore how this nightime cream smells, and used it primarily when I was having a bad skin day. It really helped keep the blemishes and redness at bay.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream- a crowd favorite, this cream is intensely moisturizing and I adore using it on my hands every night before bed. It keeps my hands soft all day!

The Body Shop Shea Body Butter- love this stuff. I have purchased 27million of them. Enough said.

Murray Clarifying Cleanser- This is one of my favorite face washes of all time. I rarely see immediate improvement with my breakouts but this wash instantly helps clear your skin. I love having this bottle around for that time of the month!

Essie polish in Style Hunter- I loved this bright pink color. Unfortunately the cap didn’t get screwed on tight enough and it dried out rather quickly šŸ˜¦

Sally Hansen Mega Shine top coat- again, love this top coat. It adds instant shine and helps my polish last longer on my nails!

Garnier Fructis Volumizing Anti-Humidity Hairspray- I loved this hairspray soley for the fact that it smells brilliant. Frankly, most Garnier products have that outstanding quality. Was it the best hairspray ever, no probably not.

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Moroccan Oil Treatment- I love putting an oil-based product in my hair after hopping out of the shower. It helps keep the frizz at bay and leaves the shine lasting all day long. This product lived up to those expectations and lasted literally forever!

Fekkai Color Care Luxe Color Masque- I love a good hair mask. This little treat helped my to lock in the moisture after excessive styling of my hair. It also made my locks suppppper soft for days!

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap in Peppermint- Technically, this isn’t makeup. However, it is my absolute favorite makeup brush cleaner….so it counts.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 012 Buff Beige- I adore this powder. Adoreeeeeeee it.

e.l.f Lip Exfoliator- Don’t buy this guys. I mean, I love a good lip exfoliator but this was like rubbing sandpaper on your lips and it broke the day I bought it.

Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil in Soft Brown- LOOOOOVE. My fave brow pencil ever! It creates the most natural looking brows!

Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation- Ok, why can I not buy this in the US yet?! This light foundation smells amaze and it gives such a dewy finish. I NEED MORE

Maybelline The Falsies mascara- A great drugstore mascara! This creates dramatic lashes, however there is quite a bit of fallout :/

And thats it guys and gals! I hope you enjoyed my garbage šŸ˜‰ Maybe next time I won’t wait until I have so much…..

October Favorites

Oh goodness guys,

Its been awhile.

I can’t even remember the last time I wrote a monthly favorites post. I want to try to get back into the swing of things as I love sharing things that I am loving in my life with you all!

Fave Person:

The first thing I have been loving this month is a Youtuber- Zoe Sugg. Zoe, or “Zoella,” films beauty, makeup and lifestyle videos that showcase her everyday life and what she loves. Anytime I need a pick me up, I always turn to her channel to uplift my spirits. It’s nice to see someone else your age going through some of the same things as you with the normal bumps and rough patches we all go through. Recently, Zoe launched her own pamper evening collection of goodies- including this makeup bag. Of course, I couldn’t wait to support her in her adventure so I promtly placed an order:)

Fave Perfume:

All month I have been obsessed with Lancome La Vie Est Belle. I have never owned a scent that so perfectly captures who I am as a person. Its classic, not too sweet but not too musky, mature but youthful, and utterly magical. Plus, the boy likes it too!

Fave Face Product:

I have recently been getting back into using highlighters and contouring my face a bit more than I normally do. Along with that comes a hunt for the perect shade of highlight for my skin tone- in comes Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in the shade Opal. I adore this color for its blended gold, bronze, and opal tones. When applied lightly to the cheekbones, it gives the most subtle glow that draws attention to all the right places.

Fave Lippy:

I love red lipstick. Throwing some red on my lips makes me feel instantly put together, classy and strong- all aspects I admire in women and love to embody in myself. This Maybelline matte lip color in the shade Siren in Scarlett is bold, bright and daring. It gives a little boost of confidence all for under $10.

Fave Others:

I would like to discuss my obsession with candles. I looooove them. Like during the fall, I go absolutely mental and have so far purchased at least 6. Why? Because they’re so cozy! A simple candle can turn a room into a home, bringing warmth, character, and evoking emotion through scent. My favorite scents are slightly sweet, fall-like smells. And my favorite candle scent of all time is Pumpkin. This Yankee Candle in Pumpkin Spice is the end-all-be-all of pumpkin smells. I die.

Lastly, my hedgehogs. The cutest things ever?! Yes, I know. I found these little guys at Target and knew I couldn’t leave them behind. Each about $3, they are going to make my dining table so stinkin’ cute!

And that’s what I’ve been loving this month! What have you been loving?? I’d love to hear below, or you can let me know on Twitter, @xobrendykins!

Maybelline Matte Lip Colors

I love lipstick. It might be my favorite makeup product of all time. And, if were being particular, matte colors are the best of the best.

The only issue is, most drugstore lippies are cream finishes and tend to have more of a sheen to them. Until now.

Thank you Maybelline for your wonderful creation:

The three colors I decided to test out were:

#695 Divine Wine- a deep purple/red wine color

#690 Siren in Scarlet- Bright cherry red

#660 Touch of Spice- a red based mauve, nice Kylie Jenner lip color!

Honestly, I am so impressed with not only the color payoff on these lip colors but their staying power as well. For a full 8 hour work day, I only have to reapply once and my lips stay bright and pigmented! As you can see in the photograph above, the colors are extremely pigmented and quite matte.

I definitely think I will get some wear out of these this fall and winter and I highly recommend them to anyone who loves a nice dark matte lip for fall!

Tutorial: Fresh Faced Everyday Makeup Look

Hey all!

Recently, I was asked how to accomplish a fresh-faced makeup look. Since it’s coming up to that time of year when high school seniors are getting their senior pictures taken I think/hope that some of you will find this post helpful!

Now, all that being said I think it’s important to state that I am by no means a makeup expert or trained in any way. I simply like playing with makeup and learn through trial and error!

I think it’s always important to start out any makeup look with a moisturized face. I personally use the Aveeno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with SPF 30. It’s so important to wear SPF daily, even if you’re not in the sun, plus this product smells amazing!

Next, I apply my foundation. For a more fresh-faced look I use a powder foundation with medium/buildable coverage. I think this looks less cakey and more natural. I apply this with a buffing brush to give a more even application. My favorite is the It Cosmetics Illumination Foundation in Light.

To give my eyes are more awake look and appear more fresh-faced, I like to apply a little concealer underneath my eyes. I use the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in the shade 125 Very Fair.

Now that my skin is taken care of, I move onto my eyes. I think that often the eyebrows are ignored, and with a little light powering or penciling, can really frame the face. I use a $3 Elf angled brush from Target and the Lancome shadow in the shade Faux Pas to lightly fill in my eyebrows.

Personally, I think a lighter eyeshadow look is more natural. I like to apply anĀ all over cream color to even out discoloration. My favorite is the Mac Paint Pot in shade Painterly. I follow that up with another cream eyeshadow with a little more color and some shimmer as well. I like to apply both of these products with a clean ring finger as I feel it gives a betterĀ coverage and is easier to blend out. Buxom makes a great shade for this called Golden Retriever, although the Maybelline color tattoos would do the same for a less expensive alternative!

The next step is very important for a fresh-faced look. Blush, bronzer and a highlighter can brighten up a look and give definition to the face- making these great products for people getting their photos done. I’m a pretty low maintenance girl however, so I searched and found a product that gives the benefits of all three of these products in one sweep. The Too Faced Sweetheart blush in the shade Peach Beach gives a great blend of a light bronzer/highlighter and a great rosy-peach blush shade that gives the face a sun-kissed glow! I apply this with a fluffy brush to the apples of my cheeks.

To finish off the eyes, I like to use a volumizing mascara. My absolute fave at the moment is the Maybelline the Falsies. This mascara is my holy grail. It gives the best blackest black look without being clumpy and gives every set of eyes a great false lash effect all for the low price of around $5!

No makeup look would be complete without a lip color! I have been loving the Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal in the shade Pink Quartz for my everyday makeup look. This is such a great light pink color with a little bit of shimmer- perfect for the end of summer!

And there you have it! My finished Fresh Faced summer makeup look!

Hope you all like the results, and if you have any suggestions or do anything different for your summer makeup routine, please leave them in the comments! I love getting tips from you all!
