Summertime Nail Colors

Hello again!

I go through phases where I have to paint my nails a new color every week. I also go through phases where I cannot be bothered to go anything to them.

This summer, thankfully, I am going through the former phase of obsessive compulsive nail painting.

I have been adoring Essie nail polishes lately. They have such a great consistency; they are pigmented, long-lasting, and the brush is the perfect size.

I am also loving white-based nail colors. The colors in the picture above are all different color families however they all have the same stark white base: which I adore.

From left to right; Fiji, Blossom Dandy, Mint Candy Apply, Lilacism, and Baby’s Breath. Aren’t they gorgeous??!!

I know they look a bit more springtime pastel, however I’ve noticed that white based colors have been quite popular this summer. I see celebrities, you tubers, and friends rocking all shades of the white toned nail polishes. My absolute favorite pictured above is the purple: called Lilacism. This color is absolutely stunning. Not too purple, almost slightly grey, I can see myself wearing this color all year round.
What are your favorite colors to wear during the summer?

Manicure Monday: Gel DYI

About two weeks ago I visited one of my best friends for the weekend and we got up to the normal things girls do- shopping, watching sappy love movies, and painting our nails.

Now we all know how much I love painting my nails, so when I learned that she had a do-it-yourself gel manicure kit, I was so excited to try it!

My first thoughts regarding doing my own gel nails were basically, “oh sh*t,” and “lets see how bad I can mess this up.” But lo and behold, this Red Carpet Nails system is so easy to follow! The kit comes with a nail cleaner, prep polish, base coat, strengthener, top coat, a red polish color and a remover. It also comes with the UV light and usb plug-in.

It took around 45 the first time I tried the whole process with my bestie at her house, then I was so obsessed with her kit I went back and bought my own! The second time I tried it out it took around 30 minutes and was still super easy. Within the box their is an easy to follow directional paper that tells you times, amount of coats, and everything else youd need to know. The UV light is super easy to use, and is incredibly quick at setting the nails/polish as well.

It’s easy to add fun decorations to your nails using this kit too- glitter, gems, various colors. Another amazing aspect about DIY gel nails are their lasting power. My first manicure using this kit lasted two weeks without chips- TWO WEEKS! This is perfect if you have a job where your using your hands a lot; washing dishes, opening boxes, all that good stuff can sometimes destroy a nice manicure. But I have finally found a semi-cure with this gel kit.

And another benefit as you can see in my picture above is that when you get color or polish onto your skin it peels right off- allowing for a clean polished look!

And that’s it! My first forray into gel manicures! See you next time,

Manicure Monday: Pink & Bling

Hey all!

It has been a day since my last manicure monday post. To be honest, my nails have been bare and breathing lately- a suggestion I’d give to all my fellow nail polish addicts. But, alas, I couldnt last forever and needed a nice polish for the start of September.

I was fancying something a bit brighter, so I went with Essie’s Style Hunter. I used Sally Hansens Mega Shine Top Coat as both a base and top coat as well- I’m hoping this will help the manicure last a bit longer and keep its shine. After applying two coats of the Style Hunter polish, I placed these teardrop shaped diamonds on the base of each nail for a little extra bling for the start of fall! I purchased these gems in a pack with tons of different shapes from Amazon- I would highly recommend them!

Has anyone seen the new polish colors for the fall? I’m so excited for all the metallics and jewel tones- I can’t wait to make another trip to Ulta and pick up some new colors! Does anyone have any good suggestions for new fall colors? I’d love to hear!

Makeup May: Day 6- Let’s Talk Top Coats

Okay guys,

We all know I’m a nail polish junkie…I typically don’t get my nails professionally done, I love painting my own nails and trying new colors. But sometimes when you do your own nails, the polish doesn’t look as nice or stay on as long.

So I set myself on a mission: to find a top coat that will successfully keep my polish on longer, and make my nails look nicer!

I gathered the contestants:

1. Low end: Pure Ice Top Coat

2. Middle priced: Sally Hansen Mega Shine Top Coat

3. High End: OPI Start to Finish Base coat, Top coat, and Strengthener

I’ve used each of these products separately, multiple times, and feel justly entitled to give my opinion on them. None of these were outrageously horrible, however in my opinion there is a clear winner.

First, I’d like to talk about each top coat to give you a little better understanding of them!

The Pure Ice top coat is great if you just want to add a little bit of shine to your nails. Although it didn’t prevent chips or make my manicure last any longer, it did have a great consistency and went on easy. Next was the Sally Hansen mega shine top coat. This top coat has a great consistency, dried extremely quickly, and made my nails look professionally done. Although it didn’t make my manicure last extremely long, it definitely extended the wear of my polish! And finally, the higher end top coat I purchased was the OPI Start to Finish. I have had this polish the longest, and have therefore been able to try this one the most. Although I had high hopes for this product, it just didn’t meet my expectations. Unfortunately, after multiple uses the consistency of this top coat became extremely goopy and hard to use. It made my polish last slightly longer, by took forever to dry. It also gave my nails a slight bubbly look, almost as if there was carbonation in the bottle…needless to say it was weird.

So which top coat is the winner?!

Sally Hansen’s Mega Shine top coat completely exceeded my expectations for a drugstore top coat. For around 5.99 I got a top coat that did everything I wanted it to and more! Overall, I would definitely recommend this product!

Any top coats you would recommend me try?

Manicure Monday #1

Hello lovely readers!

Sometimes I just feel like a little pamper afternoon.. painting my nails, relaxing, and usually watching some HGTV:) So I thought I might as well share my some of my favorite nail colors and designs with my fellow beauty lovers!

Jan Nails

Above are my nails this week! I used an OPI base/top coat combo, and the OPI You Don’t Know Jacques! polish (2 coats). This is one of my absolute favorite fall/winter colors. Why am I still wearing fall colors? Well I just don’t feel like wearing spring-y pastels yet, maybe when the sun finally decides to come out, but until then I’m sticking to the darks. I love this color because it’s so versatile, it matches with any jewelry color or outfit!

I also decided to attempt to organize my nail polishes…

Polish Collection

:/ sheesh….I need to re-think a way to organize these…Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this little post and it gives you a little inspiration to paint your own nails!

What are your favorite at-home manicure tricks? Nail colors?

Until next time,
