Spring Makeup Haul

April showers bring….new makeup!

Can we make that a new motto?!

No but really, I’ve been trying to use up my current makeup stash, so buying new products hasn’t really been on my radar. Buuuuuuut, like any normal human-being, sometimes you just can’t help buying new things.

Spring/Summer 2016 Lip Trend: True Red

I was sitting around this week thinking, what lip color should I wear today?

I know, I know. Big life decisions.

Is the Kylie nude still in? Are the winter mauves out? I JUST DONT KNOW!

Thank goodness for Google. After some searching, some runway reviewing and some Sephora stalking, I have determined that this spring and summer I will be rocking the candy-apply reds.

Travel Makeup Essentials

Hello hello!

As someone who has an obscenely large makeup collection, it would be entirely impractical to travel with all of it. It usually takes me quite a bit of time to decide what I want to bring with me when I go to work- let alone on a two-week vacation across the world. So here are the makeup essentials I like to bring with me when I travel, for any amount of time:

Wintertime Lip Edit

Fall is my most favorite time of year. Well, Fall and Winter. I couldn’t choose.

I am a sucker for crunchy leaves, crisp air, snowfall, hot cocoa. I know, I know, I’m what most would call “basic.” And guess what? I am basically okay with that.

So, as all basic girls do, we darken our lip colors this time of year. Why? Well because it’s what the fashion/beauty industry tells us to do and damnnit I think I look great in a red lip.

Liquid Blushers: High-End vs. Drugstore

Hey friends!

I am a huge fan of liquid highlights and blushes. I think the concept is perfect; swab some on your hands and easily blend into your skin wherever it looks best. They seem to last longer and be extremely pigmented as well.

There are so many options out there though, both high-end and drugstore. Each and every brand has their take on this new trend and everyone is dying for you to test theirs out. That all being said, I chose one high-end and one drugstore to test out for you all and see if one or the other out performs its counterpart.

For the high-end option I chose the NARS Liquid Illuminator in Orgasm. This is the liquid take on the brands top-selling blush by the same name. It is a slight rose gold blush that is amazingly flattering.

My drugstore option is from Rimmel; the Good to Glow Highlighter in Piccadilly Glow. This one is more of a peach-orange tinged highlight/blusher.

Here are their side by side results:

As you can see both end up with a nice sheen- wet looking and illuminating. The NARS blush definitely had more color payoff and was more visible on the skin as a blusher whereas the Rimmel option wasn’t as color-heavy and would be more useful as a liquid highlight.

I have found myself reaching for the NARS option more than the Rimmel as I love this option to add a pop of color to the face when I don’t feel like spending too much time on my makeup.

My Top 3 Pink Summer Lipsticks

Hi friends!

I love lipstick. This is of no surprise to anyone who has been here awhile. I love to wear bright colors in the summer to pump up any look- making tanned skin look more bronze, hair look more wind-blown, and summer a little better.

So I took a look through my lipstick collection and gathered my three favorite pink-toned lipstick colors to don during this season.

From left to right:

YSL Rouge Volupte #5: These lipsticks by YSL are one of my favorite formulas and this color is my stand by summer color. It is the most gorgeous peach toned pink I have ever found. Not only do I love this color on me, but it is beautiful for those with and without tans. I love how the formulation is so smooth and buttery. Another benefit of this lipstick is the smell— holy mango. I die.

Rimmel Kate Moss #16: I picked this color up last summer in Ireland and absolutely adore it. It is an amazing orange-pink that is great for daytime looks. On tan skin it brightens up your whole face! I would say that if you enjoy brights than this is a great every day summer color.

Maybelline Color Sensational #740: I love Maybelline lipsticks and the color sensational line is incredible quality for a drugstore price. I haven’t worn this color much because it is quite neon-coral, but when I do wear it, I absolutely adore it!

And those are my top pink summer lip colors! What are yours??

Product Empties: Springtime Edition

hello again friends!

I have been hoarding my garbage again. Whoopsie. But it’s for your benefit! I always love reading peoples empties posts or watching their videos because I feel like they give more complete reviews of their products. Sometimes first impressions aren’t everything, and using the product for a month or two can give you a better idea of its worth!

That all being said, I would love to share with you what have used up within the last few months of springtime!

The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion- omg long name. great product. I absolutely adore how this nightime cream smells, and used it primarily when I was having a bad skin day. It really helped keep the blemishes and redness at bay.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream- a crowd favorite, this cream is intensely moisturizing and I adore using it on my hands every night before bed. It keeps my hands soft all day!

The Body Shop Shea Body Butter- love this stuff. I have purchased 27million of them. Enough said.

Murray Clarifying Cleanser- This is one of my favorite face washes of all time. I rarely see immediate improvement with my breakouts but this wash instantly helps clear your skin. I love having this bottle around for that time of the month!

Essie polish in Style Hunter- I loved this bright pink color. Unfortunately the cap didn’t get screwed on tight enough and it dried out rather quickly 😦

Sally Hansen Mega Shine top coat- again, love this top coat. It adds instant shine and helps my polish last longer on my nails!

Garnier Fructis Volumizing Anti-Humidity Hairspray- I loved this hairspray soley for the fact that it smells brilliant. Frankly, most Garnier products have that outstanding quality. Was it the best hairspray ever, no probably not.

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Moroccan Oil Treatment- I love putting an oil-based product in my hair after hopping out of the shower. It helps keep the frizz at bay and leaves the shine lasting all day long. This product lived up to those expectations and lasted literally forever!

Fekkai Color Care Luxe Color Masque- I love a good hair mask. This little treat helped my to lock in the moisture after excessive styling of my hair. It also made my locks suppppper soft for days!

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap in Peppermint- Technically, this isn’t makeup. However, it is my absolute favorite makeup brush cleaner….so it counts.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 012 Buff Beige- I adore this powder. Adoreeeeeeee it.

e.l.f Lip Exfoliator- Don’t buy this guys. I mean, I love a good lip exfoliator but this was like rubbing sandpaper on your lips and it broke the day I bought it.

Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil in Soft Brown- LOOOOOVE. My fave brow pencil ever! It creates the most natural looking brows!

Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation- Ok, why can I not buy this in the US yet?! This light foundation smells amaze and it gives such a dewy finish. I NEED MORE

Maybelline The Falsies mascara- A great drugstore mascara! This creates dramatic lashes, however there is quite a bit of fallout :/

And thats it guys and gals! I hope you enjoyed my garbage 😉 Maybe next time I won’t wait until I have so much…..

Tutorial: Fresh Faced Everyday Makeup Look

Hey all!

Recently, I was asked how to accomplish a fresh-faced makeup look. Since it’s coming up to that time of year when high school seniors are getting their senior pictures taken I think/hope that some of you will find this post helpful!

Now, all that being said I think it’s important to state that I am by no means a makeup expert or trained in any way. I simply like playing with makeup and learn through trial and error!

I think it’s always important to start out any makeup look with a moisturized face. I personally use the Aveeno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with SPF 30. It’s so important to wear SPF daily, even if you’re not in the sun, plus this product smells amazing!

Next, I apply my foundation. For a more fresh-faced look I use a powder foundation with medium/buildable coverage. I think this looks less cakey and more natural. I apply this with a buffing brush to give a more even application. My favorite is the It Cosmetics Illumination Foundation in Light.

To give my eyes are more awake look and appear more fresh-faced, I like to apply a little concealer underneath my eyes. I use the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in the shade 125 Very Fair.

Now that my skin is taken care of, I move onto my eyes. I think that often the eyebrows are ignored, and with a little light powering or penciling, can really frame the face. I use a $3 Elf angled brush from Target and the Lancome shadow in the shade Faux Pas to lightly fill in my eyebrows.

Personally, I think a lighter eyeshadow look is more natural. I like to apply an all over cream color to even out discoloration. My favorite is the Mac Paint Pot in shade Painterly. I follow that up with another cream eyeshadow with a little more color and some shimmer as well. I like to apply both of these products with a clean ring finger as I feel it gives a better coverage and is easier to blend out. Buxom makes a great shade for this called Golden Retriever, although the Maybelline color tattoos would do the same for a less expensive alternative!

The next step is very important for a fresh-faced look. Blush, bronzer and a highlighter can brighten up a look and give definition to the face- making these great products for people getting their photos done. I’m a pretty low maintenance girl however, so I searched and found a product that gives the benefits of all three of these products in one sweep. The Too Faced Sweetheart blush in the shade Peach Beach gives a great blend of a light bronzer/highlighter and a great rosy-peach blush shade that gives the face a sun-kissed glow! I apply this with a fluffy brush to the apples of my cheeks.

To finish off the eyes, I like to use a volumizing mascara. My absolute fave at the moment is the Maybelline the Falsies. This mascara is my holy grail. It gives the best blackest black look without being clumpy and gives every set of eyes a great false lash effect all for the low price of around $5!

No makeup look would be complete without a lip color! I have been loving the Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal in the shade Pink Quartz for my everyday makeup look. This is such a great light pink color with a little bit of shimmer- perfect for the end of summer!

And there you have it! My finished Fresh Faced summer makeup look!

Hope you all like the results, and if you have any suggestions or do anything different for your summer makeup routine, please leave them in the comments! I love getting tips from you all!
