Free Sample Fridays: Tarte Smooth Operator

Helllloooo again!

This week I want to talk about another little beauty of a sample- the Tarte Smooth Operator. This product is a liquid illuminator that is perfect as a cheek highlight. I used this for a long time as it lasted forever for being such a small sample. Just a small pea size amount on my ring finger blends seamlessly on the face. It has a golden-champagne color, a slight shimmer and I adored it.

I checked the Tarte website and it doesn’t look like they make this particular product anymore (like I said, I’ve had this awhile). However, they still have select “smooth operator” products including the pressed powder and the Amazonian clay pressed powder. I havent tried either of these, but of the Tarte products I have tried, I’m obsessed.

Similar products to this that I have tried include the Becca shimmering Skin Perfector and the MAC creme color bases. These highlighters look great mixed with your favorite blush color to give an added pigment and shape to your face.

So, that’s it for this week! Let me know what you think!

Winter Makeup Haul

Now that Christmas and the New Year have come and gone, I feel that it is time for a makeup switch up! After seeing all the new makeup hauls after Christmas, the new product hitting the shelves at Ulta and Sephora, and that general spendy vibe, I usually find myself purchasing a bit too much around this time of year. Whoops….

I have been loving the brand Tarte and have been dying to test out all their products- luckily (for my bank account) I decided to just try out two. First was the classic Light, Camera, Lashes mascara. This mascara has a great applicator, goes on smooth, and never clumps. It is completely buildable, and can be applied lightly or heavily. Next from Tarte, I picked up the Amazonian Clay full coverage powder foundation. I have the liquid version of this goodie and love it, so I knew I would like this version. And boy was I right. It is so light, yet full coverage, and has an amazing range of colors.

My next splurge was the original Naked palette. I own the Naked 3 and adore it, so I knew the original would become a fast favorite. This palette is great on my skin tone, and has a complete array of brown-gold neutrals that are perfect for any season. I can’t wait to play with this a little more and maybe do some makeup looks?! eh? eh?

To work with my new eyeshadow palette, I picked up the Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Champagne. I saw a blog post a while back on this little goodie, and immediately went to pick up one for myself. These primers have such a great pigmentation and allow for the eyeshadows placed over top to shine immensely. This champagne color is delightfully shimmery and brightens up the face during the dark and drab winter. It can be worn alone or under shadow, and looks glorious either way!

Finally, I have jumped on the contouring bandwagon. The Anastasia Contour palette comes with three light shades and three dark shades. They come in a variety of shades- ranging from yellow bases to red bases (allowing for a variety of skin tones). I adore the way these colors are dark enough to shadow and highlight, yet not too harsh. I have been having a lot of fun with this palette so comment below if you’d like a post all about this treat:)

And that’s it for my little winter makeup splurge. I’m hiding my bank cards from myself now…yeesh.

Makeup to Last All Day: Tutorial

Hey guys!

Have you ever had the problem where you apply your makeup, love how it looks, then you look in the mirror a few hours later and you’re a big sweaty mess?

Oh…is that just me?

Well, I have finally found a technique that keeps my face lasting longer through the night with these favorite tools:

First, I start off my prepping my face with the Murad Mattefier- this matte lotion acts as a great primer and also keeps my skin feeling healthy even with makeup on. I follow-up with my foundation by blending the Rimmel Match Perfection in shade 102 and the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation in shade Vanille Clair on the back of my hand. By blending these two shades together I get a more true shade to my skin. I use a stippling brush to blend it into my skin- which also helps achieve a more even complexion as well.

To set my foundation I use the Rimmel Stay Matte powder which is basically my holy grail powder.

Next, I like to use the Tarte Park Ave Princess bronzer to contour my face and give a light bronze dusting to my skin. I use a fluffy brush for this technique, dusting the color under my cheek bones and blending down my neck. Afterwards, I use the Lorac Perfectly Lit Highlighter in Spotlight along my cheek bone. This is one of my absolute favorite highlighters as it really draws attention to your cheekbone and gives such a good shape to the face.

Next, I move on to my eyes! I like to prime my eyelid with the MAC Paint Pot in Painterly (obsessed), spreading it all across the lid up to the eyebrow. I have been loving my new Naked2 Basics palette and think it matches perfectly with this look. I like to use the shade Stark all across the lid again to give a clean look. I then add the shade Skimp to the corners of my eye and blend throughout the crease.

Then I realise I forgot about my eyebrows and move on over to those. 🙂 For those, I been loving the Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil in the shade Soft Brown to give a natural looking but more defined brow. Afterwards I decide to finish my eyes, and I prep my eyelashes with the Urban Decay Subversion primer. I tend to let this dry for a few seconds and then add-on two layers of the Subversion mascara- this mascara is absolutely out of this world incredible. It gives a crazy good false lash effect without the effort of all that glue and sticky-ness. After this has dried, I use the Loreal Super Slim liquid eyeliner to give a slim cat eye. I absolutely love the way that this eyeliner and mascara gives my eyes a dramatic yet classic look- a perfect pairing in my opinion!

I like to finish off this look by adding a little of the Too Faced Sweetheart blush in shade Peach Beach to the apple of my cheeks. I swipe on a little chapstick and am good to go!

This is my absolute go-to look if I want my makeup to stay on all day! Anyone else have a technique that works for them?

Tarte Rainforest After Dark FOTD

Hey readers!

If you follow me on instagram or twitter you’ll know my love for the brand Tarte and their new Rainforest After Dark palette. I featured this new treat of mine on my last beauty post and have been loving on it since. Not only does it include six delightful eyeshadows, but it also sports a blush, highlighter and bronzer. It’s basically an all-in-one travel delight. Are you sold yet?

Naturally, I wanted to play with my new toy so I corralled my sister into being my makeup tester and she begrudgingly obliged. This is what occurred next;

To start the look off I used the Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeshadow crayons in number 002 Bulletproof Beige and 003 in Bad Girl Bronze to create a blended bronzed look to the eyelid. Next, I used the Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette eyeshadows in color tan-gled up in you and make a mauve to layer over and give the eyelid a light purple tint. With a blending brush, I used plum-away with me in the crease and smudged it outwards to make the eye a bit messier.

Using the Benefit They’re Real! gel eyeliner to create a dramatic cateye. With two layers of Maybelline’s the Falsies mascara, the eyes were complete!

For her face, I used it Cosmetics Illumination Foundation in Light to give light coverage. For blush, I used the Tarte palette again and the blush shade unleashed. I then highlighted her cheekbone with the shade champagne, and used the park avenue princess bronzer to contour and shade the edges of her face.

And that’s the finished look! I’m really happy with how it turned out and the versatility of this palette. I think this is a good dramatic day look and can definitely be spiced up for night or toned down for a more everyday look!

Any suggestions??

Summer Beauty Haul

Hi loves!

Summertime is full of tanning, swimsuits, barbeques and more. But for us makeup and fashion lovers, summer is also full of re-doing your makeup bag to summertime standards. Through the summer I have been collecting bits and pieces from both Ulta and Sephora to give me that sunkissed look!

One of my biggest insecurities during the summer is my skin. Less is more with makeup this time of year which means my face breakouts have nowhere to hide. This sent me on a hunt to find a great skincare brand that would honestly help clear acne, brighten and prevent future breakouts. I found all of that and more in Murad. (Comment below if you’re interested in a skincare routine)!

What comes next in my summer beauty routine? Concealer and foundation. Normally I try to go lighter on the foundation during the summer months to prevent breakouts and to give a more natural look, however I still want coverage. Thank the makeup gods that I stumbled across It Cosmetics and their Illumination Foundation! This foundation is out of this world great. It has such a buildable coverage and lasting power- I would recommend it to anyone!

Whats next? A lip color of course! Since I am such a fan of deep berry reds and plums I have acquired quite the collection. However I dont have that many choices for summer colors. But upon my last Sephora adventure I stumbled upon the YSL section and fell in absolute love with this gorgeous pink color.

For the eyes, I am loving Tarte’s Rainforest After Dark palette. The colors are all so convertible from summer to winter, and the palette comes with a blush, highlighter and bronzer as well.

Finally, since the summer in this part of the country is HOT HOT HOT, every fashionista and beauty guru is in need of a good facial spray. A good face spray is not only cooling but moisturizing as well. Its important to keep your face moisturized during the hot months of summer and this Caudalie Beauty Elixer does just that.

And those are my beauty treats I have been loving this summer! Have any of you been loving these as well??
