Travel Makeup Essentials

Hello hello!

As someone who has an obscenely large makeup collection, it would be entirely impractical to travel with all of it. It usually takes me quite a bit of time to decide what I want to bring with me when I go to work- let alone on a two-week vacation across the world. So here are the makeup essentials I like to bring with me when I travel, for any amount of time:

Flawless Winter Skin: Makeup

Hi friends!

When winter comes along, my skin tends to get a bit more dreary, a bit dry and overall quite dull-looking. I’ve lost my glowing tan, and what am I ever to do about it?

The answer is makeup. The answer is always makeup.

So here is how I make my skin look a bit better during those cold months. Continue reading

Too Faced Melted Lipstick Review

Hey friends!

Today I’m coming at you with a review of a new favorite lipstick. I think I’m basically the last person to try the Too Faced liquified liquid lipsticks- but boy am I glad I did!

I was doing my usual “I’m just going to walk around Ulta and not buy anything” thing, when I stumbled upon these goodies and finally felt like trying them out. I adore these lip colors for a variety of reasons; they are beautifully pigmented, they smell delightful, they come in a variety of colors and I absolutely adore how they look on.

I fell in love with them after purchasing my first that fateful day in Ulta so I had to come back for more. I now I have three wondrous colors;

As you can see from the pictures above these lip colors are highly pigmented and have an amazing amount of shine. When the colors do wear off, they do so in an easy manner. By this I mean that they don’t leave awkward color around the edge of your lips but they fade evenly. Reapplying is easy, and the applicator is small and sponge-like.

Overall, I am completely sold on these lip colors. I would highly recommend trying them out- there is a color for everyone!

Winter Makeup Haul

Now that Christmas and the New Year have come and gone, I feel that it is time for a makeup switch up! After seeing all the new makeup hauls after Christmas, the new product hitting the shelves at Ulta and Sephora, and that general spendy vibe, I usually find myself purchasing a bit too much around this time of year. Whoops….

I have been loving the brand Tarte and have been dying to test out all their products- luckily (for my bank account) I decided to just try out two. First was the classic Light, Camera, Lashes mascara. This mascara has a great applicator, goes on smooth, and never clumps. It is completely buildable, and can be applied lightly or heavily. Next from Tarte, I picked up the Amazonian Clay full coverage powder foundation. I have the liquid version of this goodie and love it, so I knew I would like this version. And boy was I right. It is so light, yet full coverage, and has an amazing range of colors.

My next splurge was the original Naked palette. I own the Naked 3 and adore it, so I knew the original would become a fast favorite. This palette is great on my skin tone, and has a complete array of brown-gold neutrals that are perfect for any season. I can’t wait to play with this a little more and maybe do some makeup looks?! eh? eh?

To work with my new eyeshadow palette, I picked up the Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Champagne. I saw a blog post a while back on this little goodie, and immediately went to pick up one for myself. These primers have such a great pigmentation and allow for the eyeshadows placed over top to shine immensely. This champagne color is delightfully shimmery and brightens up the face during the dark and drab winter. It can be worn alone or under shadow, and looks glorious either way!

Finally, I have jumped on the contouring bandwagon. The Anastasia Contour palette comes with three light shades and three dark shades. They come in a variety of shades- ranging from yellow bases to red bases (allowing for a variety of skin tones). I adore the way these colors are dark enough to shadow and highlight, yet not too harsh. I have been having a lot of fun with this palette so comment below if you’d like a post all about this treat:)

And that’s it for my little winter makeup splurge. I’m hiding my bank cards from myself now…yeesh.

Tutorial: Fresh Faced Everyday Makeup Look

Hey all!

Recently, I was asked how to accomplish a fresh-faced makeup look. Since it’s coming up to that time of year when high school seniors are getting their senior pictures taken I think/hope that some of you will find this post helpful!

Now, all that being said I think it’s important to state that I am by no means a makeup expert or trained in any way. I simply like playing with makeup and learn through trial and error!

I think it’s always important to start out any makeup look with a moisturized face. I personally use the Aveeno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with SPF 30. It’s so important to wear SPF daily, even if you’re not in the sun, plus this product smells amazing!

Next, I apply my foundation. For a more fresh-faced look I use a powder foundation with medium/buildable coverage. I think this looks less cakey and more natural. I apply this with a buffing brush to give a more even application. My favorite is the It Cosmetics Illumination Foundation in Light.

To give my eyes are more awake look and appear more fresh-faced, I like to apply a little concealer underneath my eyes. I use the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in the shade 125 Very Fair.

Now that my skin is taken care of, I move onto my eyes. I think that often the eyebrows are ignored, and with a little light powering or penciling, can really frame the face. I use a $3 Elf angled brush from Target and the Lancome shadow in the shade Faux Pas to lightly fill in my eyebrows.

Personally, I think a lighter eyeshadow look is more natural. I like to apply an all over cream color to even out discoloration. My favorite is the Mac Paint Pot in shade Painterly. I follow that up with another cream eyeshadow with a little more color and some shimmer as well. I like to apply both of these products with a clean ring finger as I feel it gives a better coverage and is easier to blend out. Buxom makes a great shade for this called Golden Retriever, although the Maybelline color tattoos would do the same for a less expensive alternative!

The next step is very important for a fresh-faced look. Blush, bronzer and a highlighter can brighten up a look and give definition to the face- making these great products for people getting their photos done. I’m a pretty low maintenance girl however, so I searched and found a product that gives the benefits of all three of these products in one sweep. The Too Faced Sweetheart blush in the shade Peach Beach gives a great blend of a light bronzer/highlighter and a great rosy-peach blush shade that gives the face a sun-kissed glow! I apply this with a fluffy brush to the apples of my cheeks.

To finish off the eyes, I like to use a volumizing mascara. My absolute fave at the moment is the Maybelline the Falsies. This mascara is my holy grail. It gives the best blackest black look without being clumpy and gives every set of eyes a great false lash effect all for the low price of around $5!

No makeup look would be complete without a lip color! I have been loving the Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal in the shade Pink Quartz for my everyday makeup look. This is such a great light pink color with a little bit of shimmer- perfect for the end of summer!

And there you have it! My finished Fresh Faced summer makeup look!

Hope you all like the results, and if you have any suggestions or do anything different for your summer makeup routine, please leave them in the comments! I love getting tips from you all!

Makeup May Day 1: Too Faced Sweetheart Blushes

Hello lovelies and welcome to my attempt at Makeup May!

This month I will be posting all about makeup: tips, tricks, reviews, hauls, and more! I’m going to try to post as much as I can (hopefully twice a week!) Two of my fave YouTubers (MissGlamorazzi and AllThatGlitters21), did Makeup MAYhem on their channels last year, and it really inspired me to try and learn a little bit more about the products available for us shopaholics!

So today I wanted to do a little rave on my new fave blushes! Truth be told, I’ve never been much of a blush user. I’ve always stuck with foundation, powder and called it a day. However I recently came down with a little cold, and needed something to make my face look a little less Dawn of the Dead. Next came a trip to Ulta and these two lovely treats…..

I went with Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blushes in Peach Beach and Candy Glow, and boy I could not be any happier! Both of these blushes have an amazing consistency- not to flaky or powdery, have a buildable and not too intense pigmentation, and come in the cutest packaging imaginable!

Peach Beach

This color was my first choice as it isn’t too bright or too pink. When applied, it gives a lovely dusty rose gold finish- almost like a bronzer and light blush combined. I love it for an evening look as it has a slight metallic gold sheen that looks lovely with gold dangly earrings and a little black dress!

Candy Glow

Although at first glance some might be turned away by the brightness of this blush, it is quite an attractive color on. When blended, the three coral-hues blend seamlessly together to give a slight pink/flushed look to the cheeks. I adore this blush for my daily wear, and it never looks too dark or clown-like!

Well there you have it! What are your fave blushes to try? Any suggestions? Stick around for Day 2!!
